MATH / CALCULATOR
Ratio Simplifier.
Reduce a two-part whole-number ratio.
LET’S WORK IT OUT
Your numbers, your answer.
THE WHY BEHIND THE ANSWER
How it works.
The greatest common divisor is the largest integer that divides both parts. Divide both by it without changing the relationship.
THE FORMULASimplified ratio = a ÷ GCD(a,b) : b ÷ GCD(a,b)
Worked example
24:36 divides by 12 to give 2:3.
Good to know
At least one part must be non-zero. Use whole numbers up to one million.
ONE MORE THING
Is 0:0 a valid ratio?
No. Both parts being zero gives no meaningful relationship to simplify.
