GEOMETRY / CALCULATOR
Triangle Area Calculator.
Find triangle area using a base and perpendicular height.
LET’S WORK IT OUT
Your numbers, your answer.
THE WHY BEHIND THE ANSWER
How it works.
The height is measured at a right angle to the selected base, even if the height falls outside the triangle.
THE FORMULAArea = ½ × base × perpendicular height
Worked example
A base of 8 and height of 5 give an area of 20 square units.
Good to know
Enter the base and height in the same length unit. The answer is in square units.
ONE MORE THING
Does the height have to be a side of the triangle?
No. It is the perpendicular distance from the opposite vertex to the line containing the base.
