A SHORT GUIDE

Percentages, made clear.

A percentage describes a part per hundred. To convert 15% to a decimal, divide 15 by 100 to get 0.15.

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN

Start with an example.

To find 15% of 240, multiply 240 by 0.15. The answer is 36. To find what percentage 36 is of 240, divide 36 by 240 and multiply by 100.

KEEP IN MINDA percentage change compares the difference with the starting value. From 80 to 100 is a 25% increase, but a return to 80 is a 20% decrease because the reference is now 100.
