THE WHY BEHIND THE ANSWER

How it works.

Temperature scales have different zero points as well as different unit sizes. Convert through Celsius to account for both.

THE FORMULA°F = °C × 9/5 + 32; K = °C + 273.15

Worked example

25 °C × 9/5 + 32 = 77 °F.

Good to know

Values below absolute zero are rejected. Kelvin is written without the degree sign.

ONE MORE THING

What is absolute zero?

Absolute zero is 0 K, equivalent to −273.15 °C or −459.67 °F.
